Professor Dr. Shahana Urooj Kazmi, holds PhD in Microbiology from University

of Maryland, USA and possesses more than 35 years of teaching and research experience,

with focus on animal health and nutrition; new antimicrobial and immunomodulatory agents;

development and evaluation of immunodiagnostic methods for potential human, plant and animal pathogens; and molecular immunology of infectious diseases. During her teaching and research career, she had intensive involvement in animal-based research system at national and international levels.

Dr. Kazmi is recipient of three awards i.e., (i) Institute of Food Technologists, Washington (DC) for PhD dissertation;

(ii) Monbusho Fellowship to visit Japanese universities and scientific institutions for collaborative research; and (iii) Eli Lilly Best Microbiologist Award.

Two Research Scholars Hani H. Abidi and Sikandar K. Sherwani from Immunology and Infectious Disease Research Laboratory (IIDRL-KU), Deptt of Microbiology, University of Karachi secured 1st Best Scientific Poster Cash Prize from Pakistan Society of Microbiology on the occasion of 35th All Pakistan Science Conference-2008, held at HEJ-University of Karachi on a poster titled as "Evaluation of Biofilm Forming Potential of Pseudomonas Isolates in Contact Lens Associated Infections in Karachi- Pakistan."
